MetroPCS adds its first Android smartphone in LG Optimus M

updated 10:30 am EST, Mon November 22, 2010

MetroPCS goes Android with LG Optimus M

MetroPCS today leapt into Android smartphones for the first time with LG's Optimus M. The Android 2.2 phone is a close cousin of the CDMA Optimus S but is closer to stock, dropping extras like Sprint ID in favor of the optional @metro App Store. Android Market is still built-in.

A 3.2-inch 320x480 screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera and a 600MHz processor put it in the relative entry level, though we were impressed with the build quality and performance when we tested the Optimus S and T in October.

In spite of adding a smartphone, the Optimus M will still be available without a contract and should cost $229 without being locked into a term. Using the device needs a $50 plan that includes unlimited data, US phone calls and text messaging.
