Sling Adapter gives Dish users streaming to iPad, Android

updated 02:55 pm EST, Thu November 18, 2010

Sling Adapter launches with iOS, Android apps

Sling today rolled out the Sling Adapter as both one of its lowest cost TV streamers and its first dedicated to its partner Dish. Running solely through its USB connection, it shares the TV from any ViP 722 or 722k DVR over either a web browser or a mobile app. Viewers can steer the DVR alongside controlling channels.

iPhone and iPod touch users have both direct viewing and control through the Dish Remote Access app (free, App Store); the iPad app (App Store) currently only handles remote control but should "soon" get an update for TV viewing. Android users have their own app but need to have a 4.3-inch device like the HTC Evo 4G, and BlackBerry owners have access to a beta for the Bold 9000 and 9700 as well as the Curve 8520 and 8900.

The Sling Adapter's $99 price is key and applies both to new and existing subscribers.

    Eh..

I've already got a Slingbox hooked to my ancient DISH DVR. I just wish I had a better upload speed at home so I'd get better video quality elsewhere.

Hey my name is Fabian, I work for DISH Network so I have an updated receiver, the ViP 722k connected to a sling adapter. I have to honestly say its amazing, I have my TV in my pocket on my iPhone and never miss anything now.
