Boxwave case gives iPhone 4 a slide-out keyboard

updated 05:55 pm EST, Thu November 18, 2010

Doubles as a protective snap-on shell case

Boxwave has incorporated a low-profile, slide-out style Bluetooth keyboard into a protective case for the iPhone 4, giving it a capability usually associated with Blackberrys or Droids. The Keyboard Buddy case uses its own rechargeable battery and allows easy switching between "real" and on-screen keyboard as desired, for users who desire or require tactile feedback for their input.

The case is a form-fitting shell with a cut-out design for the touch screen and access to the normal iPhone 4 ports, cameras and controls. It features its own mini-USB port (and includes a cable) for charging the keyboard, which sports a charge duration of 45 days and has an on/off switch to conserve battery when not in use.

The Keyboard Buddy case for iPhone 4 is available in Jet Black and costs $70.

    Nice idea but...

Nice idea but why put the space bar so far over to the right? And who needs the arrow keys? They'd have been much better to make sure the key layout was good as opposed to putting on as many keys as possible. Comfort and feel are the major reasons to go with something like this. Also they'd have done well to also provide a bit more protection for the screen... not to mention doing something like the morphie juice pack and use the extra space for more battery.

    Clever!

But I am more than happy with the on-screen keyboard. Different strokes and whatnot. Now that I've gotten used to the iPhone keyboard I couldn't imagine going back.
