Xtreamer outs iPad dock that doubles as streaming hub

updated 10:40 pm EST, Wed November 17, 2010

Xstreamer dock brings iPad content to TVs

Xtreamer has recently unveiled its new iXtreamer dock for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices that will not only charge the devices but also allows for media playback onto users' televisions and home theater systems. The dock can also accommodate a 3.5-inch hard drive and two USB drives, as well as pulling multimedia content from a connected computer or networked hard drive.

Xtreamer would like to do even more, such as letting users view their iOS apps on their TVs, though Apple is not likely to allow this to happen. Streaming HD movies in MKV H.264 formats is possible, while 7.1-channel digital audio streaming is supported.

The iXtreamer is priced at the equivalent of about $235.

    Shades of....

....the Mac Duo Dock laptop set-up from the last Century. Nifty idea.
