Sony Ericsson X12 gets pre-review with confirmed specs

updated 11:50 am EST, Wed November 17, 2010

Sony Ericsson X12 specs unofficially confirmed

The recent leaked specs of the upcoming Sony Ericsson X12 smartphone have been confirmed thanks to a Mobile-Review report, though these are not official. The screen will be a 4.3-inch AMOLED with an 854x480 resolution. The X12, also called Anzu in some markets, will also reportedly ship with Android 2.2 rather than 2.3 like previously believed, though the update to Android 2.3 is said to arrive in the summer of 2011.

The prototype handset in these photos uses Android 2.1 for testing purposes. The X12 despite its screen area will be smaller and lighter than the X10, with some specs also shrinking on the surface. The CPU will only have an 800MHz clock speed instead of the 1GHz of the X10, for example, but should achieve the same speed. It's a Qualcomm MSM7230 chipset rather than the Snapdragon QSD8250 but can encode smooth 720p video in H.264 format and brings longer playback times thanks to its ability to decode DIVX and XviD video. An HDMI output is confirmed by photos.

The onboard camera will apparently be a 12-megapixel unit, not the 8.1MP shooter as previously thought, but the unit on the prototype version was limited to just three megapixels.

According to the hands-on, the phone feels slightly cheaper than the X10 due to the use of more plastics in its construction.
