Sling says SlingPlayer for iPad imminent, gives video demo

updated 05:45 pm EST, Tue November 16, 2010

SlingPlayer for iPad priced and demonstrated

Sling has hinted that its long promised SlingPlayer for iPad was about to launch and provided a demo video (below) of the app. The streamer has higher quality video than any of Sling's other apps and makes use of the extra display real estate to provide a large channel guide and an on-screen number pad that still shows most of the picture underneath when up. Much of the interface can avoid intruding into the view.

Viewers can still remote control a typical DVR if it's connected to the necessary Slingbox and can also fine-tune the aspect ratio to one of four settings if the video doesn't properly scale. The multi-touch screen gives users the option to swipe up or down to flick through channels instead of bringing up the remote.

The new SlingPlayer doesn't have a definite release date but should cost the same $30 as for smartphones. iPad users will need either a Pro-HD or Solo to stream the video, however, as the hardware in legacy models can't process video at the iPad's resolution.

    Hmmm

I didn't know the people at Sling still cared about anything.

    OMG

It's about time - this is why I got my iPad and VIP922 in the first place. Can't wait.

Sorry Sling, but the ipod/iphone version stinks. Hope this is much improved.
