News app no longer a college project

Alphonso Labs has announced that its news reader, Pulse News Mini, is now available for free across all platforms. The RSS reader displays items within panning story bars, allowing users to view a colorful mosaic rather than simple text lists. The app also provides options for keyboard search, Google Reader import, and sharing via Facebook, Twitter or e-mail.

Although a pair of students initially introduced Pulse as part of a course at Stanford, the app soon rose to the top of the App Store charts. After formally establishing Alphonso Labs, the developers managed to secure $800,000 in funding from a list of investors.

Pulse News Mini is now available as a free download for iOS- or Android-based devices.
