WP7 mobiles from HTC and LG discounted to 1 cent

updated 07:15 am EST, Fri November 12, 2010

On sale at Amazon this weekend

Amazon has discounted the upfront cost of the HTC Surround and the LG Quantum to $0.01 until Monday November 15 on a two-year contract with AT&T. The normal upfront price is $500 for either handset, making this one of the better ways to investigate Windows Phone 7 first-hand.

The HTC Surround is a slider design, but instead of a QWERTY keyboard, the sliding mechanism reveals a speaker with Dolby Mobile/SRS processing. While it is useful for casual listening, it is not necessarily a must-have feature in a mobile phone.

The LG Quantum is a more compact device sporting a 3.5-inch display and is aimed at the mid-range category for WP7 devices. It is also a slider design, but is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard. [via MobileCrunch]
