Automatic Duck's Pro Export FCP solves Avid import issues

updated 08:30 pm EST, Thu November 11, 2010

Pro Import FCP and Media Copy also updated

Importing Final Cut Pro projects into Avid Media Composer was made simpler when v5 of AMC was announced with its featured "Avid Media Access" ability, but now plug-in maker Automatic Duck has updated its Pro Export FCP plug-in to v4.05 to make the import and re-linking of media files considerably easier. In addition, the company posted bug-fix updates to two other plug-ins, Pro Import FCP (now at v2.09) and Media Copy (now at v3.01).

The company have posted a video that explains the new, easier workflow visually, but essentially what Pro Export FCP does is create sequence files that are nearly instant in exporting out of Apple's Final Cut Pro and into AMC, then leverage Avid's QuickTime AMA to make it easier to re-link the media source files to the now AMC project without errors. The update also corrects some minor errors.

Pro Import FCP does the opposite, allowing bins exported from Avid (and a few other programs) to be correctly imported into Final Cut Pro. The update to Pro Import FCP is strictly a maintenance update.

Media Copy reads exported AAF or OMF files from either FCP or AMC and the copies all the associated media to another folder or drive. This is useful for project transfers to another machine or for archiving existing projects. Minor fixes and improvements were the focus of this update.

Up-to-date users of any of these products can update to these new versions for free. New customers can purchase either of the three programs for $495, and there is upgrade pricing from earlier versions available.
