Company's free Services are now 10.6 compatible

DevonTechnologies -- developers of the DevonThink information organizing software -- have updated their entire line of freeware apps and Services today, optimizing them for a minimum of Mac OS X 10.5 and making the Services compatible with 10.6. In addition, some new features have been added and bugs fixed.

Among the new features, EasyFind (a local-search alternative that can also find system files Spotlight ignores) offers a new path control so that users can find out more precisely where an item is actually located; the asterisk has been restored as a wildcard operator; columns can be customized and the app has been given a visual makeover, including a new application icon.

PhotoStickies, which allows users to post photos from their own collection or the internet on their desktop, has been given additional "spit and polish." Both it and XMenu, an alternative app launcher, now have an Italian localization, and XMenu is also now available in Spanish and sports an updated icon. ThumbsUp, a preview and icon maker for image files, has been optimized to run up to twice as fast, and now handles transformations such as horizontal or vertical flip.

The much-overlooked Services menu gets three additions in Snow Leopard -- BlueService (send plain or rich-text SMS messages to nearby Bluetooth devices, ideal for phones that are not supported by Address Book), CalcService (do calculations or apply formulas without calling up Calculator) and WordService (various information about -- and cleanup options of -- selected text). One new feature added to these services is a "copy" option now available n CalcService to allow results to be pasted anywhere.
