Verizon trots out FiOS Flex View phone, tablet TV viewing

Verizon outs FiOS Flex View for Android and BBerry

Verizon today switched on Flex View as an on-demand option for FiOS TV viewers. Both the desktop and mobile versions of its Media Manager app can buy or rent the same video on demand options as they would have from the fiber optic service itself. Video is stored locally to work offline and supports bookmarks to pick up playback later.

A 2011 update will bring access to personal movies, music and photos.

The desktop Flex View app should give access to Macs and Windows PCs. Initially, mobile apps focus mostly on Android and BlackBerry phones like the Droid X and Storm2 but include devices that Verizon doesn't sell itself, such as the Archos 605 Wi-Fi and HTC HD2. More notebooks, phones and tablets will get support in the future, Verizon said.

Apple devices may be added in the long term, as the company has already shown live FiOS TV on the iPad and is now widely thought to be launching a CDMA iPhone early next year. An iPhone FiOS Remote app already exists.
