iPad vying with notebooks, peace on holiday wish lists

CEA says iPad no. 3 gift pick overall, no. 2 tech

The Consumer Electronics Association today put out a list that had the iPad competing with peace and happiness for the top spot in technology. Apple's tablet was in the top three in a survey of holiday wishes of any kind, coming just behind notebooks and "peace/happiness." It ranked higher than many common non-tech and even non-material wishes, such as clothes, cars and good health.

In technology by itself, the iPad was in second place, behind notebooks but ahead of e-readers, TVs and desktop computers. Apple had a second berth in these ranks with iPods the fourth most requested device as a present.

The likelihood that buyers would necessarily get a gift wasn't as certain. The CEA was hopeful and estimated that the average person would spend $232 on technology for a holiday gift, which was up five percent from the height of the economic slump last year but wouldn't be enough to pay for an iPad. It would be enough to cover an Amazon Kindle or an 8GB iPod touch.

About half plan to buy any technology they get for a child, but 40 percent will get it for a significant other and 29 percent will buy themselves gifts.

I hope for those wishing for an iPad, that

their wishes come true. Peace and happiness won't ever happen, so they might as well leave that off the list. As for the notebook, well Apple sells plenty of those and hopefully they'll sell even more this Christmas holiday. Apple is going to clean up, for sure. The iPod used to be on that list and now the iPad has taken its place.

    Notebooks ahead of iPad

More netbooks sold than iPads?! Oh wait, no they're dead! I always forget, like the many buyers who'll choose the non hyper-super-mega-cool (but pretty useless in the end) product...
