v2.12.1 improves barcode recognition as well
ExactCode GhbH has updated its ExactScan 2 Pro to version 2.12.1, adding 11 new OCR languages and improved OCR barcode recognition and accuracy. ExactScan allows Mac users to work with scanners that are otherwise unsupported on the platform, bringing 200 custom drivers for various models from Avision, Kodak, Oki, HP, Visioneer and Xerox along with support for hundreds of other models via TWAIN support.
The software features automatic de-skew, automatic black-and-white optimization, detecting and skipping (if desired) blank pages, Applescript support and automatic paper-size detection with auto-cropping. The pro version adds barcode scanning and recognition, creating searchable PDFs, and batch processing.
Both editions can handle OCR scanning in English, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), and Chinese (traditional). The update to the Pro version adds support for a number of Slavic, Eastern and Northern European languages. The ExactScan custom drivers can also be accessed by third-party applications (such as Photoshop) that support the TWAIN standard.
ExactScan 2 Pro v2.12.1 requires 10.4 or higher and sells for $129 ($99 for the standard version). Discounted upgrades from previous versions and a demo edition are also available. A list of compatible scanners is available on the company's web site.
