OHA member hints Gingerbread hitting Nexus One in days

OHA says Android 2.3 Gingerbread on Nexus One soon

Open Handset Alliance member Alvaro Fuentes on Sunday hinted that the launch of Gingerbread was imminent. In addition to confirming that the release will be Android 2.3, he told developers to be ready for an over-the-air update to the Nexus One in upcoming days. He didn't give a timeframe, but combined with leaks suggest that both the OS and the developer kit could be available at the same time.

The update won't be the tablet-optimized version, which is Honeycomb (or 3.0). It should still bring a number of features for at least some devices, including a FaceTime-style video chat using the same platform that Gmail uses today. Little else has been seen so far apart from some cosmetic changes and additional visual effects.

Most phones beyond the Nexus One are unlikely to get Gingerbread soon if at all, since the early 2011 Honeycomb release may leave most companies skipping to the newer software. [via Android Police]

Steve Jobs could use some Gingerbread to fill out those skinny turtlenecks and jeans of his.
