AMD delaying Llano CPU production until summer 2011?

updated 10:55 pm EST, Mon November 8, 2010

32nm process producing lower-than-expected yields

AMD is reportedly delaying the production of its Fusion Llano processors, which were originally expected to arrive sometime in the first half of 2011. The delays have been blamed on manufacturing issues, as GlobalFoundries has experienced lower-than-expected yields for its 32nm process required to build the chips, sources have told DigiTimes.

The company recently previewed its Llano technology, which pairs a CPU with DirectX 11 graphics components on the same chip. Desktops and notebooks will both be equipped with the processors, which are claimed to offer significant improvements to power efficiency and heat production compared to 45nm alternatives.

AMD is expected to introduce a range of Llano chips, including dual-, tri-, and quad-core versions. The production delays will allegedly stall mass production until August or September.
