Re-branded HTC Desire HD in T-Mobile guise

As expected, the T-Mobile myTouch 4G is now on sale today. While T-Mobile refers to the device as being 4G, the myTouch 4G is a re-branded and slightly redesigned version of the HTC Desire HD, a 3G HSPA+ capable phone. T-Mobile has been rolling out its faster HSPA+ network over the past year and added six more cities today.

It has been promoting the network as 4G, when the generally accepted definition of what qualifies as a 4G network are LTE, or WiMAX 2-based networks. The T-Mobile HSPA+ network will initially operate at a theoretical speed of a maximum 21Mbps downstream, although it is capable of scaling beyond this to 168Mbps in time.

The myTouch 4G is equipped with a second-generation 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a five-megapixel camera capable of shooting video in 720p. It includes a front-facing camera for making video calls and includes an 8GB memory card. The myTouch 4G is running a T-Mobile custom version of HTC's Sense UI, which sits atop Android 2.2 (Froyo).

T-Mobile's myTouch 4G is available in black, plum, red, or white for $199 on a two year plan or $449 outright.
