Apple faces complaints of MacBook Air display problems

updated 07:15 pm EDT, Tue November 2, 2010

Users claim screens

Some owners of the latest MacBook Air notebooks have begun reporting reliability problems with displays. Several threads on Apple's discussion forums include claims of various distortions, incorrect colors, horizontal lines, vertical lines, and blank screens. A few users also claim the devices will not wake from sleep.

The issues appear to be inconsistent, although most users run into the display problems when attempting to wake the devices from standby. Some of the glitches appear to cause the Air to freeze, with operation returning to normal after a restart.

Other issues, reported by Cult of Mac, relate to kernel panics on the 13- and 11-inch variants. Like the display problems, the kernel panics have been encountered when waking the notebook from standby.

Apple has yet to acknowledge any of the display or kernel panic problems with the new Airs. The company did release a software update for the new models, although the listed fixes are specific to iMovie bugs and waking a device after an external display has been connected. [via MacWorld]

What about the MacBook Pro issues

There's a much bigger issue out there that has yet to be resolved by Apple. Major issues with 2010 MacBook Pros crashing whenever running in dual (extended) desktop mode (two monitors).

There are many threads on this. Here is one big one with dozens upon dozens of people with issues.

    False sense of security

Sucked in! People thinking by spending $$$ on a 'supposedly' superior product it will be free from problems. Welcome to the Apple experience >:)

If only Apple would actually help the customer for their computers under warranty.

Or did you miss the part where it says:
Apple has yet to acknowledge any of the display or kernel panic problems with the new Airs.

    Class Action Lawsuit!!!

We also had a problem with our display after 6 weeks white lines started showing in the top right hand corner of the display. We have an extended warranty. Apple says we cracked the screen by handling the display improperly and it will be $800 to replace!

I think we all should start a class action lawsuit. It's just that bad... especially after the issue with the iphone 4 antenna issues. This is much bigger... fragile computers and apple not standing behind their products.
