US, Canada excluded from cuts
Prices for the Mac mini have been slashed in many regions around the world, Apple is said to have confirmed. Macerkopf notes that in Germany, for example, the cost of a base-level 2.4GHz Mini with a 320GB hard drive has fallen €100 to sit at €709. A Snow Leopard Server edition of the computer now starts at €999, as compared to a previous €1,149.
Notably, however, no cuts have been made at Apple's American and Canadian online stores. US prices are still $699 and $999 for regular and server versions; in Canada the same models cost $749 and $1,099 CAD, respectively. The price drops may signify an attempt to make the Mini a more reasonable proposition overseas; translated into US dollars, the 2.4GHz Mini's new cost is still $995 in Germany.

Unloved US dollar
I'm surprised (not really) it has taken this long. With the value of the US dollar taking a huge dive in recent months, it costs less to buy anything from Apple or anything else you need pay for in US currency. Now that the Australian dollar is 1 for 1 against the US, it makes no sense that we're paying $4900 for a mid-range Mac Pro while the same machine can be picked up for $3500 in the US.
