Public release imminent
Apple has finally seeded the iOS 4.2 gold master to developers, indicating the public release should arrive in the near future. Build 8C134 arrives just weeks after the company released the third beta, which brought new SMS tones but removed AirPlay support from the YouTube app.
iOS 4.2 will bring the iPad up to speed with the multitasking capabilities supported on the iPhone and iPod touch. All devices will gain support for Apple's AirPlay streaming audio standard, while the iPad's rotation lock button is expected to be switched to a mute control.
The update is promised to arrive this month, although the company has yet to announce a specific release date.
