Impactband for iPhone 4 guards against drops

updated 08:15 pm EDT, Mon November 1, 2010

Prevents damage to glass areas, absorbs impact

Among the many cases for the iPhone 4, most offer some level of protection and absorb some of the shock of an impact. But few are capable of protecting the glass front and back of the iPhone in the same was as Base One Labs' new Impactband, a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) case that extends over the sides of the iPhone to prevent its surface from ever touching the ground, even when dropped from significant height.

By preventing the front, back or buttons of the iPhone from ever being near the actual impact surface, Impactband significantly reduces the risk of breaking or other damage to the iPhones glass or metal parts. The band, which sells for $22, has been tested from a height of 16 feet, and the company has posted videos of the drops to show that the iPhone continues to work undamaged after impact.

The company does not guarantee a lack of damage, but the design of the band and the shock absorbency of the TPU material greatly increase the odds of the iPhone escaping most normal drop incidents with no damage or shock to the internals. Base One Labs offers a satisfaction-guaranteed 60-day money-back warranty on the product. The company ships the product worldwide at flat rates regardless of quantity ordered.

    not good for typing

I have the free Apple bumper and even its smaller edges make it harder for a right hander to hit the P and Enter keys. I would assume that the impactband would be even worse.

    Switcheasy......

Switcheasy has several good cases i'd pick over this monster truck of a band & you can still type easily.

For the record i think the bumpers are also good after using one for 5 months.

yeah but the apple bumper doesn't save your phone from anything. Especially a drop from 16 feet.
