New Kingston pro SSD auto-optimizes itself without TRIM

updated 01:10 pm EDT, Mon November 1, 2010

Kingston SSDNow V Plus 100 has auto optimization

Kingston today released the SSDNow V+ 100, a solid-state drive with a relatively unique self-optimization feature. The drive has its own, internal "garbage" collection to properly clear out unused storage and optimize the SSD regardless of whether or not the OS supports the TRIM command. Pre-7 versions of Windows, Mac OS X and other platforms should all get peak speeds for the maximum life of the drives without having to use software.

The 2.5-inch drives are about 25 percent faster than before and top at about 230MB per second in read speeds and 180MB per second in writes. Capacities range from 64GB to 512GB and include a rare 96GB trim for those who need more than 64GB of space but don't want the extra cost.

All of the new SSDNow drives are targeted at pros and are primarily available through corporate sales, with prices not publicly listed. Kingston hasn't said how easily the V+ 100 line will be available to regular users.

    Cynical me

If the prices weren't very high they wouldn't keep them a secret.
