Google plans unlocked, stock Android phone for US

More details have emerged about the forthcoming Samsung-based Google Nexus Two. The device is now expected to be missing from Samsung's November 8 event. Doubts have also been cast on the naming by PCMag's sources, although what this would involve isn't known; Nexus S has been speculated, but not confirmed.

In an October interview with the magazine, Google's Andy Rubin indicated that Google was keen on hitting on a formula for bringing an unlocked Android phone to the US market.

Google's new strategy should still center upon having the Nexus Two equipped with a stock install of Android. In this case, it is expected that the new flagship will be installed with Gingerbread. With the Android platform becoming increasingly fragmented, software developers have been pressuring Google to develop a new device that will always feature an unmodified version of the Android OS so that they are not hampered in their development efforts.

Google is nonetheless thought to be still determining a marketing strategy for the device. With the failure of its online retail model for the Nexus One, it has been speculated that it may be aiming to sell the phone through regular retail chains.
