Nintendo sees no Wii price drop in the near term

Bundles over price drop for Wii due this holiday

Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata said no more price drops are due for the company's Wii games console in the near term. According to a Friday Yahoo report, Nintendo will instead bring out bundles and special packages together with retailers in time for the holidays to boost interest in the console. The Wii now costs about $200, while at its launch in late 2006 it was priced at $250.

"Those who really wanted it would have already bought it so now we need to reach those who considered it but never got around to buying it," Iwata said. He did not specify what the bundles and packages would include.

The first official bundles from Nintendo were released a few months after the console's first price cuts since its launch earlier this year. These bundles and price cuts were introduced after Nintendo noticed dropping sales of its console.
