Atrio SE earbuds: Better clarity at lower volume

updated 12:50 am EDT, Thu October 28, 2010

Rise in hearing damage led to development

Concerned amidst reports that one in five children are suffering hearing loss in part due to unsafe earbud use, Future Sonics -- a long-time maker of professional earbuds for on-stage, recording and personal use -- has developed the Atrio Special Edition (ASE) earbud line, being introduced at Airport Wireless stores. The headphones use proprietary drivers to reproduce low frequencies (<150Hz) with more clarity, reducing the need to increase volume to "hear" the music or block background sound.

The AES uses a new MG7 transducer and Ambient Noise Rejection (ANR) to increase clarity, producing a 18Hz-20,000Hz response and a sensitivity level of 112dB@30Hz. The come in a limited-edition chocolate color and eco-friendly packaging, including a case made from reclaimed rubber.

The ASE professional earphones retail for $229 and are for the time being exclusively available at Airport Wireless stores.

    Yeah, right...

I'm going to give my child a $229 pair of headphones? Get real. If you were serious about hearing damage in children you'd make them affordable to everyone.
