Rumor has Samsung bringing Nexus Two to Nov. 8 Android event

updated 02:20 pm EDT, Thu October 28, 2010

Google may intro Nexus Two at Samsung Nov 8 event

A tentative rumor has suggested that Google might revive the Nexus phone line at Samsung's November 8 event. The device, which is being referred to as the Nexus Two but may have a different name, would be the first Android phone to ship with Gingerbread and would thus support all its features, such as possible Nexus One, Samsung would avoid its usual insistence on customizing the UI and would instead use Google's own, Android and Me heard.

Which carriers would be involved weren't mentioned, but an earlier rumor hinted Google wouldn't make its past mistake of refusing to offer retail stock. A deal with Carphone Warehouse would have it as the exclusive seller in the UK.

The existence of the phone would directly contradict Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who said this summer that there would be no more Nexus-like models after having pulled the One from its online store. However, the company has also faced an increasing backlash against Android after users and critics have complained that it has given too much control to carriers. Most US providers ban the official tethering in Android 2.2, and AT&T and Verizon have since clamped down, respectively banning non-Market apps and non-Bing search on some devices where even iPhones can have more choices.

If not the Nexus Two, the November 8 event may bring the Continuum, a Galaxy S-badged dual screen phone destined for Verizon. Samsung was known to have had a launch event for a device scheduled for CTIA this month but to have cancelled just days before, noting that it wasn't ready.
