updated 07:55 pm EDT, Tue October 26, 2010

UI optimized for distance viewing

Vimeo has launched a new interface, dubbed "couch mode," that is optimized for Google TV or any other devices that take advantage of televisions or other large displays watched at a distance. The new option still allows users to like clips, add content to a Watch Later playlist, and access information about videos or other users.

Users can navigate the UI with a mouse, or with a keyboard's arrow and return keys. Pressing escape switches back to the currently playing video without any overlays.

Couch mode will soon be available in the Spotlight section for Google TV. Computer users can already access the same UI at, however the heavy use of HTML5 and CSS3 is said to require Chrome or Safari.
