KDDI to bring out redesigned Galaxy Tab in Japan

Japanese phone maker KDDI has just introduced a redesigned and rebranded version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Called the SMT-i9100, it still runs on Android 2.2 and uses a seven-inch, 1024x600 multi-input touchscreen. The functional changes include a loss of the front-facing camera, and the rear-mounted one is reduced to 2-megapixels from 3-megapixels. The two 1W speakers are carried over, but battery life is rated at a low two hours of use or 12 hours of standby.

It still uses the EVDO 3G and Wi-Fi capabilities, along with Bluetooth, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of built-in storage that's expandable thanks to a microSDHC card reader. KDDI's version carries a customized interface compared to the near-stock interface on the Galaxy Tab in other countries.

The SMT-i9100 is tentatively scheduled to ship in February, though pricing hasn't been revealed. [via Impress]
