Froyo update begins appearing in Europe

The five million Samsung Galaxy S owners patiently awaiting Samsung's version of Android 2.2 are beginning to receive the anticipated update. The TouchWiz tweaked version of the Froyo upgrade has so far surfaced in Sweden, Denmark and Norway and is a available for download through Samsung's Kies or PC Studio applications.

Some issues have been reported with the update and include users losing access to the Android Market (fixed after a hard-reset) as well as lag noticeable on the homescreen. However, improvements include the addition of Flash 10.1 for mobile devices, as well as improved performance of the a-GPS. Additional features that have been added in the update include a pinch-to-zoom homescreen flyer, improved default keyboard, better Exchange support and a new Gmail application.

At the time of writing, North American users have not yet reported being able to access the update. Originally released in July, Android 2.2 has taken some time to gain traction with users. However, the most recent update on usage now shows that over a third of users are now running the new version of the OS. With the release of the Froyo for Samsung Galaxy S users, this figure can be expected to rise. [via Androinica]
