TomTom adds custom art option, roadside help plan

TomTom on Tuesday opened the customization of new navigators purchased online. Through a partnership with CafePress, TomTom lets users pick from hundreds of available designs, custom artwork and even uploaded personal photos. There is no indication how much, if anything, this option adds to the price of a device.

At the same time, the company launched a Roadside Assistance service for owners of TomTom GPS devices or the iPhone app. The service will keep a directory of Cross Country Automotive Services partners on call to help drivers in the US or Canada arrange a tow, repair a flat tire, jump start a vehicle, deliver fuel, or other help.

Drivers with TomTom devices will have the option of paying for the service on an annual membership basis or per use. There are two annual memberships offered, including the TomTom Roadside Assistance Premium and TomTom Roadside Assistance Plus. Each is priced at $60 and $50 per year, respectively, and includes four instances, though the former covers up to $100 per incident, while the latter up to $50 per incident. Individual, per use charges are only said to be locally competitive.
