Modu makes BREW-based Modu T official

updated 09:25 am EDT, Mon October 11, 2010

There’s an accessory for that

Modu Mobile has unveiled its BREW-based handset, the Modu T. The officially certified Guiness World Record holder as the lightest touch phone in the world also offers an interesting and unique approach to mobile design. In its basic form, it measures a diminutive 1.8-inches by 2.9-inches and centers on a 2.2-inch resistive touchscreen. Where it stands apart from other smart phones is that it takes a modular approach to its varied functions. Rather than converging all of its functions into one form factor, it connects or attaches to a range of different "fy" accessories.

There is a camerafy accessory that allows a user to slide the phone into a compact 5-megapixel camera to add camera functionality. Or a user can sportify their phone and attach to a sports armband to listen to music on the run. Boostifying the phone allows it to be used for hands-free calling or listen to music with its speaker. If heavy texting is required, a user can slip the phone into textify, a full QWERTY keyboard attachment.

The device comes pre-installed with a range of apps including YouTube, Google search, Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, TuneWiki, eBuddy and Snaptu. It comes pre-installed with a 2GB microSD card, which is expandable to 32GB.

An Android-based version with Wi-Fi, the Modu W is also in development and is scheduled to launch in the new year. The Modu T is expected to launch soon in a range of countries, although pricing for the phone or the "fy" accessories has yet to be announced.
