HTC Desire HD, Z may face delay due to failed testing

T-Mobile G2 quality control related issues?

Two forthcoming HTC Android flagships have reportedly failed last minute Google Type Approval testing and will be delayed until at least the "mid to end of October." Type approval testing typically refers to the requirements for a product to meet particular set of minimum standards. This follows recent reports that the T-Mobile G2 Google phone, which is manufactured by HTC, is suffering from a significant hinge looseness problem.

It hasn't emerged what aspects that the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z phones have failed to meet the minimum standards required by Google. The reports of quality control issues with the T-Mobile G2 are hardware related and may have prompted Google to investigate the build quality of the latest batch of HTC phones more closely. HTC's smartphones are typically Google's marquee Android handsets, with the T-Mobile G2 having been chosen specifically by Google to be its second Google branded phone.

With the launch of Windows 7 Phone today, the Google would understandably prefer to avoid any negative publicity about possible build or other quality issues with handsets running Android. However, it is not alone in this regard, as Apple's iPhone 4 also continues to be subject to ongoing scrutiny about its build quality and design. [via Pocket-lint]
