Samsung Omnia 7 gets pre-release Russian unveil

Samsung Russia tipped Microsoft's hand early today by confirming the Omnia 7. The device also known as the i8700 should be Samsung's Windows Phone 7 flagship outside of North America and centers on the same four-inch, Super AMOLED touchscreen as the Galaxy S as well as a five-megapixel camera with an LED flash and 720p video. Unlike the Android device, however, the Omnia 7 is using an older-generation 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 chip and has just 8GB of internal storage.

The full-touch device runs what should be a stock version of Microsoft's OS. It likewise confirms that the Omnia 7 in regular form won't have North American 3G and will instead target Asia and Europe.

Samsung hasn't given a ship date, but October 21 has figured prominently in a UK leak and is the most likely candidate for the first wave. The device will have a US equivalent, originally codenamed the Cetus but now likely to be called the Focus.
