Amazon sends out guidelines for app store developers

Amazon sends out App Store guildelines to devs

In its continued efforts to offer an Android app store of its own, Amazon has just sent out a set of guidelines to prospective developers. It lets them known what they need to do in order to submit their apps for sale on the popular buy site. The app store will be devoted solely to Google's Android.

In time, Amazon may expand the store to other platforms, but this isn't confirmed. The store does not yet require the actual apps themselves to be submitted, but only related promotional materials. This includes screen captures and other promotional materials. A key difference from Google's own Android Market or even Apple's App Store is that developers will have the option of submitting videos of their app for potential customers to watch.

The store doesn't yet have its App Packaging Tool ready that customers will need to install the available apps onto their devices. When it does become ready, it will enable DRM but it will be up to the developer of a specific app whether or not to enable it.

Finally, Amazon warns it will screen content and not allow any offensive content, though it does not elaborate upon this. [via Engadget]
