Photos show alleged two-port iPad casing [U]

Could suggest 9.7-inch size will stay

(Updated with possible counter-rumor) An electronics repair company, Mission:Repair, claims to have to obtained evidence that a next-generation iPad will use not one but two dock connectors. Photos show an alleged back for the tablet, with a second 30-pin port located along one of the long edges. The addition appears to be intended to allow landscape docking, something impossible with the current iPad unless using a special dock or stand.

Given its size, if the part is genuine, it suggests that the reported 7-inch iPad is either a secondary model -- as has been speculated -- or simply non-existent. The 7-inch hardware has also recently been described has having a micro or mini USB port, not an extra 30-pin connector. Aside from allowing landscape docking however, the latter would also offer the advantage of supporting existing iPad accessories.

Update: A separate source alleged that this was a discarded prototype for the current model and not a sign of a replacement, although this couldn't be authoritatively confirmed by Engadget's contact.

    Heads up...

They just average renders, they are not photos.

    so fake

Apple would never badge their cases with a big "MR" right on the back, even on the inside.

    Dead giveaway.

    video cam

That's what I want to know...will it have a video camera so you can use FaceTime, plus take pics. These "prototypes" do not show a rear-facing camera mold but that would be expected as such a camera on an iPad is not as desirable or practical.

    Or is it...

Wouldn't it make more sense that this is a memory card slot?

Why the h*** would you want 2 connectors??

    Landscape docking

That is why you might want a 2nd connector. But the connector in the face down images above seem to show the port is off center by quite a bit, making the landscape docking idea unlikely.

    I know. Get some "perspective".
Still, it looks off center to me...

Am i the only one who thinks apple makes beautiful products not on the outside but on the inside too? Look at how the metal is shaped on the inside.......
