Apple posts iPhone 4 TV spot touting Retina Display

New iPhone 4 TV ad boasts of screen resolution

Apple tonight posted a new TV ad (video below) for the iPhone 4 to spark sales. Unlike its earlier FaceTime-driven ads, the new 30-second commercial focuses on the Retina Display. The ad uses close-ups of the screen for apps, games and photos to show how the higher-resolution screen captures "every freckle" and "every battle," including in the Epic Citadel tech demo shown last month.

The spot makes a mostly defensible claim for Apple, as the 960x640 resolution isn't found on any other shipping phone. Sharp is about to match Apple through the Android-based IS03, but it won't ship until late November and is limited to Japan. The next-densest smartphone displays to date are the 854x480 displays found on most of Motorola's Droid series.
