iPhone 4 shipping times drop to 5-7 days

Apple likely ramping up production for holidays

Shipping times for the iPhone 4 have fallen dramatically at Apple's online store. Orders should now go out in five to seven business days, rather than the earlier promised timeframe of three weeks. White models remain unavailable, despite Apple having advertised them since June. Officially Apple only expects them "later this year."

The change suggests that Apple may be ramping up production in advance of the holiday season. The company has already greatly expanded iPad availability in the US, opening up sales to Amazon, Target and more Best Buy outlets. Much of Apple's yearly revenue comes from the October-December quarter, though revenues generally remain high year-round.

    Not in the UK

In the UK the wait time is still 3 weeks as it has been since release. Perhaps Apple is prioritising territories, or perhaps the UK is still selling them like hot cakes.

Of course, these are unlocked, off-net phones. They are actually available walk-in to some network retailers.

    attenuation fix

It's possible they have been prepping a silent upgrade to reduce or solve the antenna issue once and for all, since the case program is over. The delay could be to flush the stock of revision 1 hardware to make room for the revision 2. They could try the "everyone knows about the issue, so if you buy one now, you know what you're in for" approach, but that would be bad for their reputation. Hype or not, it's the kind of thing they could improve.

Just speculation on my part however.

    no antenna fix coming

to "fix" the antenna issue would require some fairly major hardware changes since the antenna on this model is part of the body of the unit. And changes could possibly cause other issues.
For some people even a "bumper" or case doesn't help much when they hold this iPhone (or other cell phones) in a certain place... other people even without a case holding the phone see no real change. Personal electric fields? static buildup?

Most likely the design won't change until the model that is released next summer.

    Re: Attenuation fix

Nope, no fix coming for the antenna, since it is Apple's position there is no antenna problem. If they were to release a 'fix' (in the way of an updated version), legions of iPhone 4 owners would be demanding a free upgrade.

For any real fix, they'll wait until next year's version and say it's all part of the redesign.

    Fix unlikely........

I mean, the fix in facts, the obsession over a non-existent "flaw" that i have never witnessed firsthand in over 85 separate devices. People will probably keep going on about this as if they know what they are talking about.

Had to swap out my original iPhone 4 for a new one due to a top mic issue, yep, still no "antenna problem" and before you ask it was done at the w14th street store in manhattan, no issues with data or signal.
