We review Verizon's Samsung Fascinate

Samsung's Galaxy S line is an unusual mix: each model is theoretically the same on the surface, but each model has its own spin. The Fascinate for Verizon is much like AT&T's Captivate or T-Mobile's Vibrant, but it has the unique challenge of pulling users away not just from the iPhone but from top-tier Android options on the Verizon network, particularly the HTC Droid Incredible or the Motorola Droid X. We'll see in our Samsung Fascinate review if that's possible -- and if controversial decisions for apps undermine the open principles behind Android.

    this is news?

How about the Motorola RAZR? They all were marketed the same, and on the surface appeared to be the same, but all the US carriers screwed the software in their specific model in different ways.

The only thing 'new' is that Android is loudly trumpeted as being "open", while still permitting the US carriers to continue to rape their customers.

Android's openness is giving control back

to the carriers which seems to be just the opposite of the the Droidtards are championing. Each carrier has created their own personal "walled garden". It seems like fragmentation to me and it will only get worse. I was getting confused when what appeared to be the same smartphone had different names and I thought maybe there were just minor differences. I didn't realize the carriers were just giving the same phones different names which seems kind of stupid since they really are the same phone. Maybe this stuff doesn't mean much to consumers as I think it would because they don't follow models. They just go into the cellphone store and pick something for their needs and that's it.

The iPhone makes it so much simpler. All the new models are the same, they're named the same, they all get their updates at the same time, they'll all use the same App Store and theres no interference from the carriers. Apple keeps everything consistent.

I think this is the best phone i've ever owned

I'm so happy with my new unlocked cell phones! This has an unbelievably fast processor, great feel and easy to text on. I used to own a unlocked htc phones, but I'm so much happier with my brand new unlocked samsung phones. This Samsung Fascinate is so much better for my business and pulls my email in so much faster. And I really couldn't be happier with it since it is an unlockedĀ tmobile phones and it's a unlocked 3g phones I can take it overseas. My family loves my new phone and can't get enough of the games. I'm going to purchase another one for my son for his birthday from Definitely would recommend this phone.
