Hands Off! 1.0 will monitor, control Mac software access

updated 11:25 pm EDT, Thu September 30, 2010

Software launches at half-price Monday, Oct. 4

Metakine has announced its new Mac application access monitor, Hands Off! 1.0. Premiering this Monday, Oct. 4, HandsOff! 1.0 will monitor applications and control their access to both networks and disk data. It shows users what information is being passed in activities that would otherwise be invisible, giving users control over what personal information is moving to the web. It can limit applications from storing cookies or sending information back to the software's designers.

Some of the features of Hands Off! include blocking outgoing and incoming network connections and blocking domain name resolving and multiple subdomains. It protects a Mac from Trojans, worms and network parasites and supports "via" rules for software that accesses Unix tools. The software is designed for easy configuration, showing which application is requesting to act and allowing for temporary or permanent access or denial of each attempt.

Hands off! 1.0 requires Mac OS X 10.6.4. It will cost $25, but will be 50-percent off via the MacUpdate promo Monday, October 4 only.
