QNAO updates NMP-1000 with support for 1080p

QNAP has refreshed its NMP-1000 with the new NMP-1000P adding 1080p support to its networked multimedia player. While there is little to cosmetically distinguish between the two models, the NMP-1000P has significantly upgraded internals and an improved user interface. Powering the new system is a Sigma Designs SMP8643 system-on-chip running at 667MHz. It offers better internet services, improved hardware and software decoding and can be integrated with home AV systems by USB, or eSATA connections to a user's PC or Mac.

It will playback a wide-range of video file formats including H.264 files up to the claimed 1080p. Also supported are MKV, M2TS, BDMV, ISO and AVI files. In terms of audio, the device supports multi-channel audio. For audiophiles, it also includes a built-in Wolfson WM8524 high performance DAC that allows FLAC lossless audio files to play natively at their full range. It will also play back PCM, WMA, APE, AC3, DTS and WAV files.

The hub keeps its Turbo NAS functionality for backup of all networked computers, permitting convenient cross-platform file sharing among Windows, Mac, and Linux or Unix users.

QNAP plans for the NMP-1000P to be available this October through a range of shops including Amazon, NewEgg and PC Mall. Pricing is yet to be confirmed.
