Wordpress for iOS v2.6 adds video, autosave

updated 10:40 pm EDT, Thu September 30, 2010

Now uses Apple's Core Data to preserve posts

Popular blogging system Wordpress has updated its free iOS version to 2.6, bringing a host of new features including a much-requested "local drafts" feature to help prevent lost entries, as well as versioning autosave option. Also included in the update is support for videos uploaded directly from the iPhone, and an expanded Media Library to accompany it.

The app now uses Apple's Core Data technology to save local copies of posts prior to uploading or publishing, making the chance of lost data more remote. Autosaving has been added to store versions of a post, allowing users to go back "in time" and retrieve prior versions. Also cleaned up and improved is the setup process for starting or importing a new blog, and converting the Photos tab to a Media library so that videos and other forms of media can be uploaded and attached to posts.

Some users have reported some issues with v2.6 in logging in, and the company has responded on their iTunes product page by saying v2.6.1 is on the way to address the issue. The universal app requires iOS 3.1.2 or later.
