French carriers negiotiating for subsidized iPad 3Gs?

updated 04:05 pm EDT, Thu September 30, 2010

Apple could compromise to push sales

French cellular providers could soon carry cheaper, subsidized iPad 3Gs, according to local financial paper Les Echos. The businesses are reportedly in negotiations with Apple, with the aim of launching iPads on contract by the end of the year. Similar negotiations are rumored to be happening in other European Union countries.

Should an agreement be reached, it will mark the first time an iPad has been tied to a contract. 3G data is current optional, paid for on a monthly basis. Apple may be willing to compromise however, as the iPad is rapidly approaching its first holiday season, and the company may want to broaden sales as much as possible. At home in the US the tablet recently became available in all Best Buy and Target outlets.
