Mozilla: No plans to build Firefox browser for the iPhone

updated 08:30 pm EDT, Tue September 28, 2010

Firefox Home to remain primary iOS utility

Mozilla has outlined its future plans for Firefox Home, the App Store utility that serves as a bridge between the desktop Firefox experience and iOS browsers. Although the app has been periodically updated with additional features from the desktop software, the company claims it is not working to make mobile Firefox browser for the iPhone.

"People have asked about adding more browser-like features to Firefox Home, but there are technical and logistical restrictions that make it difficult, if not impossible, to build the full Firefox browser for the iPhone," wrote Firefox Home developers Ragavan and Stuart on the company's blog.

Aside from the browser limitations, Mozilla still plans to expand the feature list for Firefox Home. Future updates are expected to offer password synchronization, improved iOS 4 integration, new search preferences, and social networking features such as Twitter and Facebook.
