Sony updates VAIO E, F, L with new CPUs and graphics

Sony VAIO E, F and L get late 2010 refresh

Sony quietly upgraded its PC lineup on Sunday with speed and option upgrades across a handful of its models. The VAIO E series gets most of the updates with options for the slightly faster 2.66GHz Core i5 580M and 2.53GHz Core i5 460M, as well as a new 2GHz Pentium dual-core option for budget build-to-order models. The EA and EB also now have options for Mobility Radeon HD 5650 video and 1080p displays to match, while every E series sees purple return as a color choice.

The VAIO F gets a visual performance upgrade through swapping out the GeForce GT 330M for the newer GeForce GT 425M made available this month. A single USB 3.0 port now supports the usual USB 2.0 connections and supplies an avenue for very fast external hard drives and future peripherals.

Sony's primary all-in-one, the 24-inch VAIO L, is getting the option of Blu-ray after a prolonged absence and now has the option of a 2TB hard drive. It carries a 2.66GHz Core 2 Quad S and has the option of a TV tuner.

Pricing varies depending on the trim level, but the L series with Blu-ray and 2TB costs $2,200. As part of the refresh, Sony has also teased a Signature Collection version of a PC next month, but hasn't said which model that might be.
