Image downloader boosts micro-blogging
The growing use of Tumblr as a source for both reading and posting photos and images has inspired Kavasoft to refashion their image search-and-download tool HyperImage v.3.5 into a full-fledged Tumblr image client.
The program downloads images from a particular URL or from a search by keyword, then presents the results in an iTunes-like interface, customized by the user to exclude some images (like thumbnails and banners) based on a number of criteria (such as minimum resolution or size, etc.). New in v3.5 is the ability to download all the contents of any Tumblr blog, allowing for easy reposting. A new Dashboard acts like a RSS newsreader for Tumblr, making it easy to keep track of new posts to a user's favorite blogs.
The program can also make an on-the-fly slideshow of images collected, and offers tools to allow the quick collection of images posted in a series. It includes a OS X Service that takes a highlighted URL and collects all the images from it automatically. It uses the Keychain and cookies to allow automatic login to password-protected sites as well. Tumblr bloggers can post images, along with captions and tags, to their own blogs (including multiple accounts).
HyperImage v3.5 is available for free trial (downloaded images will contain a watermark until the program is registered), requires Snow Leopard (10.6 or higher) and is 64-bit optimized. The program costs $25, with upgrades from previous versions being $15.
