Ableton Amp brings amp, cabinet effects to Live

updated 11:35 am EDT, Wed September 22, 2010

Add-on now include with Ableton Suite

Ableton has introduced Amp, a new effects add-on for the developer's Live production software. The expansion simulates various real-world guitar amps, improving the character of Live's output. The "Blues" effect, for example, is modeled after a 1970s amp, while "Rock" simulates "the best known rock amp of all time," a 45W model from the '60s. Some other options include Clean, Boost, Lead, Heavy and Bass.

Also included with Amp is Cabinet, which operates as a separate effect but simulates a variety of guitar cabinets as well as mics and mic positioning. As an independent product, Amp costs $129 and requires Live 8.2. Amp is also being included for free with Ableton Suite 8.
