Entourage Pocket Edge for Verizon spotted in video

Verizon Pocket Edge accidentally confirmed in clip

Plans to launch an Entourage Pocket Edge e-reader on Verizon were inadvertently validated on Friday after a visit to Marvell by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger showed the device. The video (below) from Forbes shows a device clearly labeled as the "Verizon Pocket Edge" held by the legendary actor and by itself. It clearly has much smaller screens, likely six inches for one and seven inches for the other versus the 9.7 inches on both sides of the original, and as hinted by its carrier link would have built-in EVDO for 3G.

Design changes are few outside of the displays and the 3G. The front camera may have been shifted to the left side instead of the right, and the shape makes better use of its space as a whole. Speakers are still built into the "spine" of the Pocket Edge, and it will presumably still run some version of Android with touchscreen support on both sides. Marvell's decision to use the unannounced hardware as a showcase indicates that it's using some form of that company's ARM processors to power the book-like device.

The leaked roadmap for Verizon has put Entourage's e-reader in a November launch timeframe, and the existence of a seemingly complete device implies that the hardware is still on schedule. [via The Digital Reader]
