Shanghai location would be city's third
Details on two more international Apple Stores may have emerged. The most concrete information comes from real estate sources, who say that Apple's third Shanghai store will be based in the nearly-completely Henderson Metropolitan building on Nanjing East Road. The facility will have five levels of retail space below its office sections, and be relatively close to the heart of Shanghai's major shopping district, along Nanjing West Road.
For Apple the main incentive of picking the East over the West may be cost. Sources note that retail rents in the East are about $288 per square foot annually, 35 percent less than in the West. Apple's other two Shanghai stores include the current one in the Pudong district, and another under construction at Hong Kong Plaza on Huang Huai Road.
In Germany meanwhile, speculation is said to be mounting that Apple has picked its first Dresden location. The store would allegedly be based in the Altmarkt Galerie, a four-level shopping mall. The building is currently expanding by 50 percent to accommodate 90 more retail spaces, potentially giving Apple plenty of choices. In any case the expansion is set to complete in the fall. The only other German Apple Stores can be found in Munich, Hamburg and Frankfurt.
