O2 slashes data caps for iPad broadband plans

£15 plan now only offers 2GB instead of 3GB
O2 has informed many of its UK customers that the company's iPad broadband plans have been modified with lower data caps. When the device was first launched, O2 allowed subscribers to use 3GB of data for £15/month or 500MB of data for £2/day. The monthly plan has been dropped to a 2GB allowance, while the daily option only offers 200MB of usage.
The company has offended some customers by suggesting the initial data caps were merely a "promotional" offering available for a limited time. According to the blog The Hodge, O2 never informed buyers that the listed prices were only intended to serve as a limited promotion.
Despite the unfavorable differences with the new plans, O2 never tied the data packages to a long-term contract. Subscribers can feel free to drop the service at any time, although the higher data caps may have played an important role in pushing customers to upgrade to the 3G model.
Users can easily swap the O2 micro-SIM card for that of an alternative carrier, such as Orange or Vodafone. Orange still offers a 3GB monthly allowance for £15/month, along with a 10GB plan for £25/month, while Vodafone provides a 5GB option for £25.
