Adobe add-on enables HTML5 in Illustrator

Could aid in production of tablet magazines

Adobe has released a new plugin for Illustrator CS5, the HTML5 Pack. In combination with Dreamweaver CS5 11.0.3, the pack helps produce interactive layouts for the web and portable devices based on HTML5 and CSS3. The add-on also extends Illustrator's SVG support; HTML5 and CSS3 compatibility is in fact described as "initial," not to be finalized for "some time."

The software may be especially relevant in developing for the iPad, which relies heavily on HTML5 for web media due to a lack of Flash support. Adobe recently renewed its interest in developing for iOS devices after Apple loosened restrictions on the App Store. In particular the company is resuming updates for Packager for iPhone, a CS5 tool which cross-compiles Flash code for the creation of native iPhone apps.
