Amazon offers Nikon pre-orders

Barnes and Noble has released the third major update to Nook for Android, adding new customization options, while Amazon has started to accept pre-orders for Nikon's new line of high-end compact cameras

A new version of Nook for Android has been released in the Android Market, adding additional options for customizing the reading interface. In version 2.2, several options have been added to improve the overall experience, including additional line spacing options, the ability to turn text justification on and off, and an improved settings screen. An option for hiding the status bar while reading has also been added. Additionally, the update incorporates QuickActions, which makes use of pop-up menus to provide access to commonly used options, such as Details, LendMe, More By, and Buy Now. Nook for Android is a free download in the Android Market and requires Android 1.6 or higher to run.

New Nikon cameras available for pre-order through Amazon

Nikon's new line of high-end compact cameras, including the Coolpix P7000, S8100, and S80, are now available for pre-order from Amazon. All three cameras were announced earlier this week and are expected to being shipping this fall. The P7000 is seen as a direct competitor to the Canon G12, offering a 10-megapixel sensor, EXPEED C2 image processor, a special low noise night mode, and 720p video support. The S8100 is a more conventional point and shoot, with a 12-megapixel sensor and back-illuminated CMOS sensor, while the S80 features a 14-megapixel sensor and 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen. Prices for the cameras match previous announcements, putting the P7000 at $500 while the S8100 and S80 cost $300 and $330 respectively.
